Berrigan Shire Council is working towards safely re-opening for camping in the New Year. Arborists have already been in to inspect the trees at Town Beach, Tocumwal, and their report is expected in coming days. Mayor Cr. Matthew Hannan said: “The recommendations from that report will be acted on as soon as humanly possible.”
“The old boat ramp at Tocumwal has emerged as the river is dropping so the trailer parking bay is now open”, he said “and we encourage people to use this area to help with congestion.” The new boat ramp and jetty remain closed until the river height drops further.
Transport for NSW have released a notice that the Murray is open to use but to practice caution when navigating.
Cr Hannan said “We know that the community wants us to get back to normal as soon as we can, but safety is key. We will communicate any changes as soon as we know about them.”
