Berrigan Shire Council regretfully informs the community that the Town Beach camping area will be closed for camping for the summer season and until further notice.

Mayor Matt Hannan said “Council had hoped we would be able to open Town Beach for the summer season, however that will not be possible.”

Mayor Hannan expressed Council‘s regret that the Murray River had remained high for so long that Council would be unable to open the facility safely in time for the summer camping season.

“We know the community and visitors will be extremely disappointed.  Unfortunately, none of the beaches, including those run by National Parks or their Victorian counterparts on the other side of the river will be open either,” said Mayor Hannan.

“We understand this is an enormous blow for our visitor economy.  The fact is there are thousands of trees across the Murray need assessment and clearing before we can even start to assess the damage to the facilities at the Town Beach site.  Our flood recovery efforts will take time and patience, but Council will endeavour to keep the community updated on our progress.” Mayor Hannan said.
