A by-election for Berrigan Shire Council must be held as fewer candidates nominated than the number of councillors to be elected at the 2024 Local Government elections.The by-election will be held on Saturday, 23 November 2024.

Berrigan Shire Councillors have elected Councillor Julia Cornwell McKean as Mayor and re-elected Deputy Mayor Carly Marriott at this morning's Extraordinary Meeting (Wednesday 20 September 2023).
Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean and Deputy Mayor Carly Marriott will hold their positions for a 12-month period, until September 2024.
Mayor Cornwell McKean said she was honored to be elected as the first Indigenous Mayor of Berrigan Shire.
"Thank you to my fellow Councillors for their continued support and I look forward to serving Berrigan Shire for the remainder of my term," Mayor Cornwell McKean said.
Mayor Cornwell McKean expressed profound appreciation and thanks to outgoing Mayor, Cr Matthew Hannan for his 7 years of service as Mayor. Cr Hannan has been at the helm, tackling the challenging years we’ve had with floods, COVID-19 and their flow on effects.
