Berrigan Shire is one of a growing number of Councils to receive a share of the NSW Government’s $50 million Fixing Local Roads Pothole Repair Funding.

Council has signed the Deed of Agreement and is set to receive $471,489 of funding specifically designed to assist regional and rural councils by supplementing existing funding to address priority repairs and ongoing maintenance of potholes in local and regional roads.

Mayor Matt Hannan said “Berrigan Shire and the surrounding areas have been hit by floods and severe weather several times this year and the damage to our roads is obvious.”

Mayor Hannan welcomed the extra money announced under the Fixing Local Roads - Pothole Repair Round.

“Council appreciates the funding that has been offered to assist us in our flood recovery efforts.  This funding provides us a place to get started.  You will see our crews our working to keep the roads in the Shire safe.  As the roads and the base dry out damage will continue to occur.” said Mayor Hannan.

“Complete restoration is not possible until the foundations of our roads and road networks are dry.  It is unfortunate we are going into harvest with roads in such poor condition.  The Pothole Repair funding will allow us to keep the roads as safe as possible while we undertake broader assessments that will allow us to apply for Disaster Relief Funding to ‘build back better’.” Mayor Hannan said.
