DIGITISING THE HISTORY OF BERRIGAN SHIRE – A COLLABORATION WITH COUNCIL AND THE FINLEY HIGH SCHOOL

The Berrigan Shire Council is excited to announce the successful completion of a pilot program undertaken in collaboration with the Finley High School. The project aimed at digitising the rich history of the Finley Football Club. This initiative will not long preserve the club’s legacy but also serves as a model for future projects across the Shire that could enhance local museums and historical archives.

Mayor of Berrigan Shire, Dr Julia Cornwell McKean, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “This collaboration is a fantastic step towards preserving our local history. By digitising the Finley Football Club’s historic photographs and other memorabilia, we are ensuring future generations can access and appreciate our community’s heritage.”

Finley High School Principal, Mr Jeff Ward, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Our students have gained valuable skills through this project, learning about art, local history and technology. We are proud to be part of an initiative that not only educates but enriches our community.”

Berrigan Shire Council will look to broaden this project in future years to include other local community histories, and museum initiatives, with the aim of fostering deeper connection tot the region’s history and culture.

For more information about the digitisation project, interested people are able to access the first digital museum rooms at https://framevr.io/finley-football-club. Council will work with Finley High School to ensure the continuation of this project into the future.
