April Mayor's Message

Well the weather has certainly cooled down very quickly in Berrigan Shire!  I have always said that there is a mere two weeks between using the air conditioner and the heating.  I think this year has proven me to be correct!

With the end of the summer, our pools and splash parks have now closed.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank our pool committees, lifeguards and water and sewer team for all of their hard work in delivering those services.

Many of you will have made contributions in December/January to our consultation for our Community Strategic Plan.  A draft plan has now been published and we want to know what you think.  The Community Strategic Plan is one that belongs to the community, not Council, so please do take a look and provide feedback by visiting Council’s website, Office or a library branch. Consultation on the draft closes on Friday 3 May 2024.

You may have heard that there is an exciting new attraction coming to Barooga in May.  Bullanginya Dreaming is an immersive walking track along the Bullanginya Lagoon.  It is complemented with a night-time light show and art installations that showcase the stories and perspectives of our Indigenous ancestors.  I am told that a permanent light show of this nature is a first for the country.  Once again, Berrigan Shire punching above its weight!

I recently met with a new community group in Tocumwal who are working on public artworks for the township, with a particular focus on sculpture.  They are a small, but committed group and are looking for new members.  This is a great opportunity to contribute to the identity of Tocumwal.  If you are interested in joining the group, you can email me on julia.cornwellmckean@berriganshire.nsw.gov.au and I will pass your details on.  Alternatively, you can call Council to express your interest and ask for your details to be passed on to the Mayor.

Anzac Day is an opportunity for us to pay respects to servicemen and servicewomen of our country and to remember those who have given their lives in service.  Berrigan Shire has a rich history of military service and I commend you all to attend one of your local services.
