Development Applications Made Easy
Berrigan Shire Council is committed to making the development application process for business as simple as possible. If you are considering starting, expanding or modifying a business you need to contact the Shire’s Environmental Services Department and ask if you will need to submit a development application. The Council’s staff can advise if you will be required to submit an application, provide general information to guide you through the process of approvals and give advice in regard to what requirements your business may need to satisfy.
Approvals can take time so make sure you contact the Council early. If you are aiming to meet a tight schedule, ask staff if it is realistic to expect that your development can be approved within the expected timeframe. Most applications can be approved within a month. Others however can be more complicated than you may assume and will take considerably longer to be approved.
In order to ensure a timely approval it is necessary to provide all the relevant information required. Berrigan Shire Council provides a free consultation service that invites businesses to discuss their application with the Council’s staff before an application is submitted. To take advantage of this service, please call the Council to make an appointment. You will need to bring to the meeting information on the location of your proposed site, details of what type of business you will conduct, and at least a concept plan showing the layout of the development. After the initial meeting, staff will offer advice as to issues that should be addressed in your application. Before formally submitting your application you can refer it to staff for comment.
