Berrigan Shire is situated in the Southern Riverina and consists predominantly of irrigated rural land, therefore its main income is derived from the agriculture industry.  Berrigan Shire is located to the north of the Murray River, half way between Albury and Echuca.

Nominations sought for the 2017 Australia Day Celebrations

As part of the Australia Day Celebrations, to be held at Barooga on Thursday 26th January 2017, it has become customary to present a number of awards to citizens of the Berrigan Shire in recognition of outstanding contribution and achievement to the community.

The awards are:           Citizen of the Year (open age)

                                    Junior Citizen of the Year (21 years of age and under)

                                    Sportsperson of the Year

                                    Junior Sportsperson of the Year (21 years of age and under)

                                    Team or Community Organisation of the Year

We know that there are plenty of potential and worthy nominations in and around our communities who deserve to be recognised, so we encourage you to nominate.  An application form can be downloaded here:

High Water Level Updates

There has been some concern about road closures and NSW being blocked off from Victoria at the Cobram Barooga Causeway or Tocumwal Bends. At present, there are no plans to do this, and we will inform you if this situation changes.
