The council boundaries encompass the towns of Barooga, Berrigan, Finley and Tocumwal which offer a range of first class lifestyle opportunities including recreation, health and education facilities. We welcome you to our website and hope you take the time to explore the site and learn more about Berrigan Shire Council.

A message to the residents of our Shire.

Some of us, if not all, would know by now that Mr Fluffy operated within our towns installing loose fill asbestos. It is something that has been disappointing for those that have been found to have that type of insulation in their roof.

Free testing by the Department of Fair Trading has been extended but you need to register with them before the 25th of August.

I strongly encourage all homeowners, whose houses were constructed prior to 1980, that haven't had their properties already tested, do so. If your house needs to be tested down the track then it will come at a significant cost to you, the homeowner.

You will still be able to sell your property, however, would you buy a house without documentation that says that it is free of this type of insulation?

Understanding that some may have the attitude that it doesn't matter, I've lived here long enough without a worry, then think of those that will have to deal with it down the track, whether it's your siblings, grandchildren or great grandchildren.

We need to eradicate this from our communities whilst we have this opportunity, and then we can move on from this unfortunate circumstance.

We've had our challenges over the years, and with this issue, if those that need to all get tested, we can finally move forward.

Thanks, Matthew Hannan

Mayor Berrigan Shire
